City of Santa Monica, California - Environmental Programs Division

A detailed Custodial Products Bid Specification is used by the City of Santa Monica, California to minimize
the enviornmental (indoor air quality, health impact and disposal) impact of all cleaning products used by the city.
This can be the basis of bid specifications for school districts and others interested in improving IAQ.  For optimal
IAQ in schools, no VOCs or fragrances should be used.  Additoinal considerations for use of cleaning products
includes scheduling their use outside of school hours and insuring that adequate ventilation is used to "flush out" any
            remaining contaminants prior to occupancy.

Additional input from the City of Santa Monica is available from the City's Environmental Programs Division.
